After a brief illness, Abubakar Magaji Olawoyin, the state lawmaker for the Ilorin Central State Constituency, passed away on January 9, 2023.
This was confirmed in a statement by Awolola Ayokunle, the head of the information committee of the Kwara State House of Assembly.

Abubakar Magaji Olawoyin was born on the 2nd day of May, 1966 in Ilorin, he died at the age of 56 years old. He was supposed to be 57 in the year 2023.
Abubakar Magaji Olawoyin has qualifications in field of studies such as; Post Graduate Diploma in Public Admin; HND Pub. Admin.; NCE, and WASC.
He attended; Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin – Kwara State College of Education, Oro – Ballah Community Secondary School, Ballah and Baboko LSB Primary School, Ilorin.
He worked as; Senior Personal Asst. to Senator Gbemisola Rukayyat Saraki, Constituency Manager to Senator Gbemisola Rukayyat Saraki, Acting Speaker, Ilorin West Local Government Legislative Council, and Elected Councilor, Magaji Ngeri Ward of Ilorin West Local Government Area.
He also worked as a Campaign Manager to Senator Gbemisola Rukayyat Saraki Back-to-Senate 2007.
Kwara APC suspends campaign to honour late Majority Leader, Olawoyin
In honor of the late Abubakar Magaji Olawoyin, majority leader of the state house of assemblies, who passed away early on Monday, the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kwara State has halted all outdoor campaigning for the following week.
“We thus urge on all our party organs, candidates and support organizations to put a pause on all outdoor campaign rallies and activities for the next seven days till after the Fidau prayer,” said Prince Sunday Fagbemi, the party’s state chairman, in a statement issued in Ilorin on Monday.
“This is in honor of Hon. Abubakar Magaji Olawoyin, one of our leaders.
We ask Allah to grant Al-Jannah to all of our departed, especially Hon. Abubakar Magaji Olawoyin, Leader of the 9th Kwara State House of Assembly.
“The Kwara State House of Assembly regretfully announces the passing of Hon. Magaji Abubakar Olawoyin, member and leader of the house who represented Ilorin Central State Constituency.
After a brief illness, the unexpected incident happened in the early hours of Monday, January 9, 2023. At the Magajin Geri family home in Surulere, Ilorin, Janazah will be held at 4 p.m.
May Allah grant him eternal rest in Jannatu Firdauz.
He said that the late Olawoyin would be buried in accordance with Islamic tradition later that day at the residence of his Magajin Geri family in Ilorin, the state capital’s Surulere neighborhood.

Magaji Olawoyin served in the State Houses of Assembly in Nigeria. He represented the Ilorin Central seat in the State Legislature as a State Representative.
As the representative of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, in the Ilorin Central Constituency, the late leader of the assembly had aspirations to contest for a second term in the general elections in 2023.
