Alan Richard Winde is a South African politician and businessman. He was born on March 18, 1965, in Knysna, Cape Province, South Africa.  Winde is a member of the Democratic Alliance political party since 2000, but previously he was affiliated with the Democratic Party and was an independent politician.
He is married to Tracy Winde, and together they have two children. Winde attended Knysna High School and later established small businesses in his hometown. He was elected Premier on May 22, 2019, succeeding Helen Zille.
He started his political career in the early 1990s as a municipal and district councillor, and later in 1999, he was elected to the Western Cape Provincial Parliament. Winde held various leadership positions in the Democratic Alliance provincial parliament caucus.
He was appointed Provincial Minister of Finance, Economic Development and Tourism in May 2009, and later served as Provincial Minister of Economic Opportunities until 2018.
