Political Career

Alhassan Ado Garba was first elected to the Nigerian National Assembly’s House of Representatives in 1992 under the SDP. He supported Engr. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso’s election as Deputy Speaker of the 3rd Republic House of Representatives.

In 2000, he was appointed as Special Adviser to the Kano State Governor on Environment. Later, he worked as a Special Adviser to Senate Presidents Chief Adolphus Wabara and Senator Ken Nnamani on Governmental Affairs and Political Party Affairs, respectively.

In 2007, he returned to the House of Representatives and became the Deputy Chairman of the House Committee on Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC). He was re-elected in 2011 and served as the Chairman of the House Committee on MDGs and the African Network of Parliamentarians on MDGs Chairman.

In 2015, Alhassan Ado Doguwa was elected for the fourth term in the Lower Chamber and became the 8th Assembly’s Chief Whip after the defeat of his Speakership nominee. This caused a rift between him and Femi Gbajabiamila, which ended their long relationship.
