Bartlett didn’t just love hockey because he worked as a referee and teacher. Brendan Bartlett, his son, was a good junior hockey player who played for the Winnipeg Blues for three years in the Manitoba Junior Hockey League.

The Battle with Cancer

In 2020, Bartlett was told he had stage 3 colon cancer. Because of this, he had to stop being a judge. He had surgery to remove 15 inches of his colon, and tests of his lymph nodes showed that the cancer had spread to other parts of his body.

He had chemotherapy for six months, which made his hands and feet feel like they were on fire. He never gave up, though, and was always determined to beat the sickness. In 2021, he was able to go back out on the ice and do his job as an official again.

Andrew Bartlett’s death was a big loss for hockey in Northwestern Ontario and all over the world. He was a well-liked figure in the hockey world because he loved the game and worked hard to help young players do well. His family, friends, and coworkers will miss him very much.
