Atiq Ahmed General Elections 2009, 2012 and 2014
In 2009, Atiq Ahmed was allowed to run for election because he had not been convicted in any cases yet. However, the Samajwadi Party expelled him and Mayawati refused to give him a ticket under BSP. He then contested in the election as a candidate from Apna Dal party but lost.
In the 2012 Uttar Pradesh elections, Ahmed contested under the Apna Dal party from the Allahabad constituency even though he was in jail at the time. He was released on bail before the elections, but he still lost to Raju Pal’s widow, Puja Pal.
In 2014, Ahmed was taken back into the Samajwadi Party and fought the national elections from Shrawasti. He got a quarter of the votes but lost to Daddan Mishra of the BJP by nearly 100,000 votes.
In 2016, Atiq Ahmed and his henchmen allegedly assaulted staff members of a university for taking action against two students caught cheating.
Ahmed was caught on video beating the SHUATS teacher and employees and was arrested the following day. In 2017, he was summoned to court and arrested by the police.
Abduction | Murder Cases
In 2019, Ahmed was convicted of kidnapping a key witness who testified against him in a murder case from 2005. On February 24, 2023, the witness was killed in a shooting and bomb attack. Ahmed was the main suspect in this murder case, and his brother, son, and an associate were co-accused.
Atiq Ahmed has a long criminal history, which includes cases of assault, kidnapping, and murder. In 2019, he was convicted for kidnapping and sentenced to life imprisonment. He was later transferred from Prayagraj Central Jail to Sabarmati Jail in Ahmedabad.

Two days after this incident, Atiq Ahmed was shot and killed along with his brother while being taken for a medical checkup in Prayagraj.
