In Conclusion

On the weekend, there was a political tsunami in the Patani Local Government Area of Delta State. Dr. Chris Ekiyor, a former National President of the Ijaw Youth Council, left the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and led more than 5,000 of his supporters across the state to the All Progressive Party (APC).

After being given the broom by the representative of Deputy Senate President Ovie Omo-Agege, Elder Omene Sobotie, Chairman of the APC Delta State, on behalf of Ekiyor’s followers, Patani, Ekiyor said he decided to do something bold to distance himself from the PDP, which he said was known for rewarding only family members after elections.

He criticized the PDP for playing family politics by recognizing and rewarding wives, children, and brothers with juicy appointments while the others are treated like orphans and have to settle for peanuts.

Ekiyor, a former commissioner of commerce and industry, said again that democracy is about the people and that there is no democracy in a society where the people don’t have a voice. He also said that the Delta State PDP doesn’t care about smart people and is always happy with mediocrity.

The former head of the IYC also said that Governor Ifeanyi Okowa’s government was not doing enough to help the Ijaw-speaking areas of the state, even though the Ijaws had made a lot of sacrifices for him to win the governorship in 2014.

“If you can’t connect Ayakoromor to the highlands, and if you can’t connect Ogulagha and Gbaramatu to the highlands, you’ve done nothing but fail the Ijaw nation.”

“Today, I’ve decided to go back home with my supporters from Patani, Bomadi, Burutu, Isoko South, Isoko North, Ughelli North, Ughelli South, Aniocha North, Warri South, Warri South-West, and Warri North Council Areas of the State to join the APC to take over the State in 2023 for a more developed and better Delta State.”

In his speech, DSP Ovie omo-Agege thanked Chris Ekiyor and his followers for being brave. He also told them to stay strong and keep an eye out for the PDP’s tricks. ((independent.ng))
