Dadi Freyr Pétursson, professionally known as Dadi Freyr or simply Dadi, is an Icelandic musician born on June 30, 1992, in Reykjavík, Iceland. He currently resides in Berlin, Germany. Dadi is the frontman of the musical group Dadi & Gagnamagnið.
He gained international recognition when he was selected to represent Iceland in the Eurovision Song Contest 2020 with the song “Think About Things.”
Although the event was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Dadi represented Iceland in the Eurovision Song Contest 2021 with the song “10 Years,” finishing in fourth place.

Family Background | Early Life
Dadi Freyr Pétursson is a musician from Reykjavík, Iceland. He grew up in Denmark until he was nine years old, and then his family moved to Iceland and settled in the Southern Region. They first lived in Laugaland and later in Ásahreppur. 
Dadi’s father was a bongo player for Katla Maria in the 1993 Söngvakeppni competition. Unfortunately, their song “Samba” placed ninth out of ten contestants.
Education | Early Career
Dadi finished his high school education at Fjölbrautaskóli Suðurlands, also known as the College of the Southern Region, in 2012. Later, he moved to Berlin to pursue a BA in Music Management and Audio Production, and completed his degree in 2017.
Dadi’s interest in music began during his youth, and he developed his skills by practicing drums and studying piano and bass guitar. Along with his friend Kristján Pálmi, he co-founded the band RetRoBot.
In 2012, RetRoBot won the Músíktilraunir, or Music Experiments, competition, where Dadi was recognized as the best electronic musician of the year. The band then released their album “Blackout” the following year.
Personal Life: Wife and Children
Dadi is happily married to Árný Fjóla Ásmundsdóttir, who is also a musician. They are proud parents of two daughters. Their first daughter, Áróra Björg, born in 2019, became an inspiration for the lyrics of Dadi’s famous song “Think About Things.” In 2021, they welcomed their second daughter, Kría Sif, into the world. 
In 2020, Dadi returned to Söngvakeppnin and won the competition with his song “Think About Things,” which gained international attention despite the cancellation of the Eurovision Song Contest due to COVID-19.

In 2021, Dadi & Gagnamagnið represented Iceland in the Eurovision Song Contest with the song “10 Years,” and despite a member testing positive for COVID-19, they qualified for the final and secured fourth place with 378 points.

Dadi’s musical style incorporates elements of electronic music, pop, and indie pop, resulting in catchy and infectious tunes that resonate with audiences. His performances are characterized by his energetic stage presence and the iconic teal green sweaters worn by the members of Gagnamagnið, which feature pixel art portraits of themselves.
