He led the LP to secure governorship of Ondo State with Olusegun Mimiko. Nwanyanwu was re-elected as the party’s National Chairman in December 2009, but in a Convention in October 2014, he did not put himself up for re-election. He was instead elected as the Chairman, Board of Trustees of the Party.
In the same year 2014, Nwanyanwu represented the Labour Party at the National Conference as one of the 492 delegates.
He advocated for the unity of the country, good governance, and the development of solid minerals nationwide.

He began his educational journey at St. James Primary School in Amuzu, before moving on to Oraifite Boys’ High School in Anambra State. He went on to study Labour Management Relations at Howard University’s School of Business in Washington D.C.
Nwanyanwu worked at Union Bank between 1979-1993 and held several roles within the National Union of Banks, Insurance and Financial Institutions Employees (NUBIFIE), eventually becoming National Treasurer and then National President in 1989.
This role automatically made him a member of the National Executive Council of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC). In 1992, he attended the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies, Kuru, Jos and was awarded “Member of the National Institute” (mni).
He later resigned from Union Bank of Nigeria in February 1993 to complete the programme. He completed his law degree in 1998 and went on to the Nigerian Law School, where he was called to the Nigerian Bar in 2000.
He earned his master’s degree in law (LL.M) from the University of Lagos and did his pupilage under the close supervision of Frederick Rotimi Williams in the Chief Rotimi Williams Chambers.
Nwanyanwu is married to Jane Onyinye Nwanyanwu, and they have four children. While he is not currently involved in partisan politics, he is a vocal commentator on political and economic issues.
