In 1993, he began practicing law in Gani Fawehinmi’s Chambers in Lagos State, southwestern Nigeria. He founded Festus Keyamo Chambers after two years at Gani Fawehinmi’s.
He represented Mujahid Dokubo-Asari, leader of the Niger-Delta Peoples’ Volunteer Force, in his treason trial and Ralph Uwazuruike, leader of the Movement For The Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB). Keyamo advised Bola Ige’s murder.
He sued the Nigerian government for illegal service chief appointments in 2008. In 2017, Stephanie Otobo, a Canadian singer and stripper, accused Apostle Suleman Johnson, through her lawyer Festus Keyamo, of breaking a marriage pledge following many sexual encounters.
Political Career
Festus was one of Buhari’s second-term ministers. Senate screening was equal after his nomination. Keyamo served as Nigeria’s Minister of State for Niger Delta until September 24, 2019, when President Muhammadu Buhari moved him to the Ministry of Labour and Employment.
In July of 2017, Nigeria’s Legal Practitioners’ Privileges Committee (LPPC) recognized Keyamo as one of the top Nigerian lawyers and deemed him deserving of the title of Senior Advocate of Nigeria.
