Foreign Hackers Attacking INEC Database
Mahmood Yakubu, the chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), announced that there have been attempts to hack into the commission’s computer system in the lead up to the 2023 general elections.
He made this statement during the 2022 National Conference of the National Association of Judiciary Correspondents (NAJUC), which was held in Abuja on January 26, 2023, and focused on the theme “2023 General Elections; Judiciary and Sustainability of Nigeria’s Democracy.”
Dr Lawrence Bayode, the Deputy Director of Information and Communication Technology for INEC, mentioned that the attacks were being launched from various locations around the world.
Yakubu affirmed that INEC’s systems, including the INEC Result Viewing Portal (IReV), the Bimodal Voter Registration System (BVAS), and the backend, are well-secured despite any apparent vulnerabilities.
