Oluwaseun Ogunsakin, a young tennis player from Nigeria, has made history by becoming the first Nigerian player to participate in Wimbledon, the oldest and most prestigious tennis tournament in the world.
Ogunsakin is Africa’s number one ranked U-14 player and earned a spot at Wimbledon after winning the African U-14 championship at the International Tennis Federation Confederation of African Tennis (ITF/CAT) junior championships held in Togo.

Oluwaseun Peter Ogunsakin has emerged as the African U14 boys’ singles Champion after dominating the field at the @ITFTennis & CAT African Junior Championship held in Lome, Togo.
The 14-year-old defeated Ahmed Darmoul of Tunisia 6-2,6-4 in the final played on Tuesday. It was double the joy for Oluwaseun, who had won the warm-up tournament against the same opponent barely a week before.
Oluwaseun has been on the rise since 2018, all thanks to his father and coach, Wumi Ogunsakin – Ekiti State tennis coach.
The developing news I got this morning is that Oluwaseun is positioned well in the race to qualify for the junior event @Wimbledon in July. Fingers crossed with a lot of fasting and praying.
Oluwaseun, who’s currently on scholarships at the ITF tennis camp in Tunisia also bagged an @ITFTennis scholarship which would take him on an European tour – France, the orange bowl in the US before he makes his grand slam debut at Wimbledon.
