On April 12, 2021, Sam Bennett was traded to the Florida Panthers along with a sixth-round pick in 2022. He signed a four-year, $17.6 million contract extension with the Panthers on July 26, 2021.

Bennett represented Canada in the 2013 World U18 Championship as part of the under-18 national team. He contributed three goals and four assists in seven games, helping Canada win the gold medal.
