Sami Khayat – Lebanese Francophone Theatre Comic Actor, Director, and Writer (1943-2023)
Sami, who is considered a pioneer of comic theatre in Lebanon, was born on December 2, 1943.  He started his artistic journey with a play he created in 1960 called Molière Hugo and Sofocole.

Sami Khayat Career
Najib Khayat is a well-known Lebanese playwright who worked with Pierre Chamassian from 1973 to 1986, and again in 2013. He has written plays such as Super-Choir (1978), Yes for Elias, Abu Clips (1980), Baabda Boom (1981), Finito (1982-1983), Star Epidemi in Kulturzentrum (Jounieh) (2007), Mine Dir Rien, Kuma Sava, Taisez Vous – 2, and Karafe.
Khayat has received the French Medal of Arts and Literature with the rank of officer in 2020, for his 60 years of work in theatre in the French and Franco-Lebanese languages. Despite the Lebanese Civil War, he continued to work and was recognized for his contributions by The Gebran Tueni Foundation and Fakhruddin Foundation in Lebanon.
Sami Khayat’s Death
On April 26, 2023, at the age of 79, Sami Khayat passed away from bone cancer.  Ordre des Arts et des Lettres (2020). He will always be remembered as one of the most prominent figures in Lebanese theatre. His contributions to the industry will continue to inspire generations to come.
