Dr. Sarah Omotunde Alade is an economist who served as the acting Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria from February 20, 2014, to June 3, 2014. She took over from Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, who was suspended from the position.
Godwin Emefiele succeeded her. Alade previously served as the Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria in charge of economic policy from March 26, 2007, until March 22, 2017. She was born in Offa, Kwara State, Nigeria.
Sarah Alade obtained her Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Ife, her Master of Commerce degree from the University of Melbourne, and her PhD from the University of Ilorin. Dr. Alade was honored with the Nigerian National Order of Merit (NNOM) in 2019 for her contributions to the country’s development.

As deputy governor of Economic Policy, Alade oversees the Economic Policy Directorate, which includes the Research, Monetary Policy, Trade and Exchange, Statistics, and Financial Markets Departments.
She chairs the Monetary Policy Implementation Committee and coordinates technical inputs for the Monetary Policy Committee. Alade has published several papers on interest rate policy and monetary policy implementation in Nigeria and is a fellow of the Nigerian Institute of Operational Research.
