Born on August 3, 1947, in Siddaramanahundi, a rural village in the present-day Karnataka, Siddaramaiah was raised in a farming family. He had a humble beginning and received no formal education until he turned ten.
However, his determination led him to pursue higher studies, earning a B.Sc. and LL.B. from Mysore University. Siddaramaiah is the second among five siblings and belongs to the Kuruba Gowda community.
Early in his career, Siddaramaiah worked as a junior under a lawyer named Chikkaboraiah in Mysore and later taught law for some time. He has a deep connection with the people of Karnataka, owing to his grassroots experiences and understanding of their concerns.
In his personal life, Siddaramaiah is married to Parvathi Siddaramaiah, and they have two children, Rakesh and Yathindra. Tragically, Rakesh, who was considered his political successor, passed away in 2016. Yathindra followed in his father’s footsteps and successfully contested the 2018 Legislative Assembly elections.
