What Is Threads App?
Threads is a recently launched application developed by Meta Platforms’ own by Mark Zuckerberg, the parent company overseeing Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp. The primary purpose of this app is to facilitate the sharing of text updates and enable users to participate in public conversations.
With a user-friendly interface and seamless functionality, Threads offers several features that have garnered positive reviews from its users.
By providing a platform for individuals to connect and exchange information, Threads has quickly gained popularity as a reliable source for staying updated and engaging in meaningful discussions.
Features
Threads is a platform where communities gather to discuss various topics of interest. It allows you to connect with like-minded individuals, follow your favorite creators, and share your own thoughts and creativity. Here are some things you can do on Threads:
Access Your Instagram Followers: Easily connect your Instagram account and follow the same accounts on Threads. You can also discover new accounts to follow.
Share Your Point of View: Start a new thread to express your thoughts. This is your space to be authentic, and you have control over who can reply.
Connect with Friends and Favorite Creators: Engage with the creators you love by jumping into the replies and reacting to their content. Find your community and connect with people who share your interests.
Control the Conversation: Customize your settings and manage who can see your content, reply to your threads, or mention you. The accounts you’ve blocked on Instagram will carry over, and Threads enforces the same Community Guidelines for a safe and authentic interaction.
Find Ideas and Inspiration: Engage in crowd-sourced conversations, learn from thought leaders and industry experts, and get answers to your questions on various topics.
Stay Updated: Never miss out on the latest trends and live events. Whether it’s music, movies, sports, games, TV shows, fashion, or product releases, you can find discussions and receive notifications when your favorite profiles start new threads.
Open Social Networking (coming Soon): In the future, Threads plans to introduce features that allow you to discover more content and connect with users on open, interoperable social networks, contributing to the future of the internet.
Reviews
Social networks have become integral parts of our lives, with users investing significant social capital into these platforms. This investment makes it difficult to imagine leaving, as it means losing connections with friends and the network one has built.
This phenomenon was observed with MySpace in 2007, where the sheer number of users made it unlikely for them to migrate to another platform.
However, today, Elon Musk’s Twitter is testing the theory that people can eventually abandon their favored social network. In response, Mark Zuckerberg recently launched Threads, a platform designed to attract those seeking a more well-managed alternative, similar to Twitter.
A Different Experience
Unlike Twitter, Threads offers a less confrontational and aggressive environment, with fewer instances of racism, antisemitism, transphobia, and general abuse. Zuckerberg attributes this difference to intentional design choices aimed at fostering friendliness and expansion.
By borrowing an existing network from Instagram, Threads provides a sense of familiarity and alleviates the concern of joining a new platform without any connections. However, due to potential data rule violations, users from EU countries are currently unable to sign up for Threads.
Uncertainty Surrounding Threads
While Threads has the potential to become a powerful platform, many users are uncertain about its purpose. Currently, three dominant user groups can be observed: Instagram users who have gained unexpected popularity through text-centric posts, social media managers seeking to stay relevant, and individuals seeking refuge from Twitter’s toxic environment.
Each group has different expectations for the platform, leading to confusion among early users. Consequently, the initial posts on Threads often revolve around questions about the purpose of joining.
Unique Features and Limitations
Threads offers a different experience compared to Twitter, combining elements of Twitter, Instagram, and TikTok. While it lacks the immediacy of Twitter for breaking news due to an algorithmically generated news feed, it focuses on driving engagement through posts.
Users are more likely to encounter entertaining content, such as memes, rather than political discussions. However, the absence of a text search function and the limited display of recent material hinder its potential as a breaking news source.
Implications for Twitter
Threads’ launch presents a challenge to Twitter under Musk’s leadership. If users continue to migrate to Threads, Twitter may further consolidate as a platform for right-wing libertarians engaging in culture war topics.
Twitter’s strength has been its ability to facilitate real-time conversations, breaking news dissemination, and building communities around shared interests.
However, the inclusion of diverse communities with strongly held interests has also fueled anger and virality, as observed during Donald Trump’s presidential campaign.

The app is off to a great start! One improvement I would suggest is the option to choose which album to select photos from. It can be cumbersome to scroll through thousands of images on my phone to find the ones I want to share. Additionally, having in-app direct messaging would be beneficial for conversations with friends about threads or posts. On the positive side, I love that the app allows for adding more than four photos at a time and writing long multi-post threads.
Rabeh Friha Said:
The app has a fantastic user interface and user experience. However, the algorithm needs improvement as it feels random at times. It’s understandable since the app is still new, but I hope future versions will address this. The design team deserves praise for their excellent work. It would be great to see a quick demo of the design system published on Figma or Instagram. Good luck with future updates.
Jerico Nuñez Said:
The app’s fluidity is impressive, and it seamlessly integrates with other META apps like Instagram and Facebook. I love the fresh atmosphere of this new social media platform. Welcome to the competition!
Janet Fisher Said:
I wish there was an option to only see threads from people I follow. Currently, it resembles the “For You” page on Twitter, lacking the ability to filter by the accounts I follow. Additionally, the ability to sort threads chronologically would greatly enhance the app. With these changes, it could easily surpass Twitter. Right now, it’s decent but has plenty of room for improvement.

Using Threads is a delightful experience. However, I’ve noticed an influx of company and official accounts on my timeline, making it similar to other competing apps. The accessibility feature for linked photos (ALT Text) is missing, which Instagram excels at. Furthermore, the absence of a desktop version makes it challenging for users accustomed to creating threads on other platforms.

All praise to God. @zuck, may you find honor and guidance by embracing Islam. ❤️ ❤️ Meta Group has done an excellent job with this app. It resembles Twitter and shows great potential. I express my sincere gratitude to Meta Group and Mark Zuckerberg for their efforts. ❤️ I am Muhammad Delwar from Bangladesh. May Allah guide you to the right path.

So far, it’s not bad. The only issue I encountered is the inability to have multiple accounts. Nevertheless, I am enjoying the app. Kudos to Meta for this creation.

The app requires significant improvements. Why am I seeing threads from random people? The whole point of following others is to view their threads first.
Currently, it’s worse than Twitter in that aspect. Switching accounts should be easier, similar to how Instagram and Facebook handle it without requiring a new login request approval.
Chuck Brown Said:
The app is intriguing, but many of us use desktop more frequently than mobile apps. Instagram took a long time to realize this and eventually introduced a half-assed desktop version. Threads should do the same, or better yet, provide a fully functional desktop experience. Additionally, Facebook should allow parsing Threads links when sharing our profiles. Can’t we all just get along?
