Ufahamu Africa Offers Non-Resident Fellowship Opportunity
Ufahamu Africa is inviting researchers, journalists, practitioners, and podcasters who are passionate about contributing to content creation and sharing insightful analysis about life and politics in Africa.
The fellowship spans nine months and provides a platform for fellows to engage in podcasting, identify relevant themes and guests, establish collaborations with content producers, and expand their research and networking connections.
Fellowship Details
Selected fellows will participate in the program remotely for nine months, producing approximately four podcast episodes.
They will also join the editorial team to help shape the content of season 8, brainstorm ideas for dissemination, forge mashup partnerships, and contribute to podcast production decisions.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants are expected to meet the following requirements:
- Possess experience in research and/or public media dissemination.
- Demonstrate a strong commitment to sharing knowledge openly.
- Exhibit dedication and experience in engaging the general public, policymakers, and researchers on African topics.
- Show a commitment to enhancing the capacity of African research institutions,
- universities, media centers, and journalism
- Submit a well-defined proposal
- Have computer literacy, proficiency in English, and effective public speaking skills
Encouragement for African Applicants
The fellowship highly encourages applications from African nationals, scholars, journalists, content creators based in Africa, and female candidates.
Team proposals are also welcome. Familiarity with the Ufahamu Africa podcast or podcasting in general is advantageous. The fellowship aims to accept three to four fellows or teams for the upcoming session starting in October 2023.
Fellowship Benefits
Selected fellows will receive a stipend of $3,500 USD to cover their internet data expenses and compensate for their time devoted to the fellowship.

Personal Statement: A one-page statement addressing:
- The reason for choosing this particular fellowship and their aspirations for the nine-month period and beyond.
- How the fellowship aligns with their current commitments
- Curriculum Vitae/Resume: A detailed CV or resume
Podcast Proposal: A two-page proposal addressing:
- The envisioned types of podcast episodes to be created
- Strategies for ensuring diversity in perspectives, ideas, voices, and stories
- Qualifications or unique qualifications that make the applicant suitable for the proposed content
- Ideas for disseminating the content to relevant networks
- Plans for producing episodes in multiple languages, if applicable
Sample Audio Work: Submission of an audio recording showcasing the kind of content the applicant can create. The audio should be between 30 seconds and 5 minutes in length.
