In the 2011 English season, Ben Foakes made his first-class debut for Essex in a match against the touring Sri Lankan team at the County Ground, Chelmsford.

During the match, although he was dismissed for 5 runs in Essex’s first innings by Tissara Perera, he displayed his wicket-keeping prowess by taking three catches from behind the stumps, including two in the Sri Lankans’ first innings and one in their second.

He became the second non-Asian batsman, following Shaun Marsh, to accomplish this feat in Sri Lanka. Furthermore, he became the first English player to score a century in Sri Lanka and the twentieth player overall to achieve a century on his debut for England.
