Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who won the presidential election, has gathered a strong team of lawyers to defend his victory at the tribunal. The team is led by Wole Olanipekun, a well-known lawyer and former President of the Nigerian Bar Association.
A total of 50 lawyers will help Tinubu in facing challenges from his opponents, Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP).
Tinubu, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), won the election held on February 25 with 8,794,726 votes. Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi came in second and third place with 6,984,520 and 6,101,533 votes respectively.
The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof Mahmood Yakubu, presented Tinubu with a Certificate of Return to confirm his victory.
Legal Representation and Challenges
Even though Tinubu won the election, Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi are not happy with how the elections were done. They think there were problems and want to challenge the results in court.
But Tinubu’s lawyers haven’t received the petitions from the PDP and LP candidates yet. Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi have also asked the court if they can see the materials used in the election.
