Gempa Jayapura: Sejumal Bangunan di Jayapura Damaged by Earthquake
An earthquake of magnitude 5.2 struck the city of Kota Jayapura in Papua Province on Thursday, 9th February 2023, at around 13.28 WIB. Read the complete story in English.
The epicenter of the earthquake was located at 2.5 South Latitude and 140.70 East Longitude, with a depth of 10 kilometers.

Dwikorita Karnawati, the head of the Meteorological, Climatological, and Geophysical Agency (BMKG), stated during a Zoom conference that the earthquake occurred in a land area and there was no possibility of a tsunami.
Several buildings in Kota Jayapura were damaged due to the earthquake, including the Buncend Menara Jaya and the fire in Rawa Dua Hamadi.
Some of the affected buildings include the Angasapura Village, Cirita Kafe Restaurant, RSUD Dok II, Graduate School of Cenderawasih University, Honda Polimak Showroom, and Toyota Polimak Showroom.
Dwikorita stated that the earthquake caused several buildings to collapse, as well as landslides and fires.
Dwikorita, the former Rector of Universitas Gadjah Mada, urged the residents of Kota Jayapura and the surrounding areas to remain calm and not be easily disturbed by false rumors or hoaxes regarding the situation.
