On May 12, 2022, it was revealed that Bankman-Fried’s company, Emergent Fidelity Technologies Ltd., majority-owned by him, acquired 7.6 percent of Robinhood Markets stock.

In a November 2022 affidavit submitted before the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court, Bankman-Fried disclosed that he and FTX co-founder Gary Wang borrowed over $546 million from Alameda Research to finance the purchase of Robinhood Markets stock.

In September 2022, reports surfaced that Bankman-Fried’s advisors had offered to assist Elon Musk in funding his acquisition of Twitter. He expressed willingness to commit up to $5 billion for this purpose, though no investment was made in the end.

Bankman-Fried also made substantial investments, including $500 million in Anthropic and over $500 million in various venture capital firms, such as $200 million in Sequoia Capital, which was itself an investor in FTX.

Finally, in July 2023, allegations emerged that Bankman-Fried had considered the possibility of “purchasing” the island country of Nauru as a potential bunker in the event of an apocalyptic scenario, a project characterized as misguided and dystopian.
