Born on March 5, 1975, in Greenacre, New South Wales, Australia, Anthony Gobert, a renowned Australian motorcycle road racer nicknamed “The Go Show,” passed away on January 17, 2024, at the age of 48, in Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia.

In 1994, Gobert made history by winning the final leg of the season at Phillip Island, becoming the youngest World Superbike race winner at just 19 years old. His promising career, however, faced setbacks due to personal struggles with drug abuse.

During his teenage years, Gobert excelled as a motocross racer, securing national titles in Australia. He later transitioned to road racing, winning the Australian domestic superbike championship.

Gobert gained international recognition in 1994 as a wild card at his home Superbike World Championship round, where he took pole position, secured a win, and claimed third place.

Competing in the AMA Superbike Championship in 1998 and 1999 on a Vance & Hines Ducati, Gobert experienced success, including a win as a WSBK wildcard at Laguna Seca.

Despite a promising second race, an unforced crash dashed his victory hopes. In 2000, he returned to WSBK on a Bimota SB8R, winning a wet race at Phillip Island before the team’s financial challenges.

Gobert’s journey continued in the AMA championship with Yamaha in 2001, racing the YZF R7 in the superbike class and the YZF R6 in the supersport class.

After a brief stint with Ducati in 2003 and a return to the Australian Superbike series, he participated in two rounds of the Supersport World Championship in 2006.

The racer made a mark in 2006 by competing in the Valencia Superbike World Championship round, becoming the first rider to have wildcard rides in three different countries. He then returned to the Australia Superbikes on a Kawasaki in 2007.

In June 2019, Gobert faced an altercation at a restaurant, leading to a home invasion where he was robbed and beaten with baseball bats, resulting in severe injuries.
