The year 2014 proved to be impressive for Germán as he played for the Greensboro Grasshoppers, achieving a notable 9-3 win-loss record, a remarkable 2.48 ERA, and a total of 113 strikeouts. His outstanding performance earned him a spot in the All-Star Futures Game that year.
In December 2014, Germán was traded to the New York Yankees, along with Nathan Eovaldi and Garrett Jones, in exchange for Martín Prado and David Phelps. However, his 2015 season was cut short due to Tommy John surgery.
Despite being non-tendered after the season, Germán demonstrated his determination by re-signing with the Yankees on a minor league contract and eventually making his way back to the 40-man roster. Germán made his major league debut on June 10, 2017, after being promoted by the Yankees.
The following day, he pitched against the Baltimore Orioles, showcasing his skills by delivering 2 and 2/3 scoreless innings. Throughout the 2017 season, Germán made seven relief appearances, finishing with a 0-1 record and an impressive 3.14 ERA.

Despite this achievement, Germán faced challenges during the season, ending with a 2-6 record and a 5.68 ERA.
He was eventually optioned to Triple-A on July 21, 2018. In 2019, Germán secured a spot on the Yankees’ Opening Day roster and had a remarkable April, earning the title of “Hurler of the Month” from the team. It was later confirmed that he would be ineligible for any baseball action for the remainder of the season, including the postseason. On January 2, 2020, Germán received a 63-game suspension for violating the league’s personal conduct policy, making it the most severe suspension for a player facing domestic violence allegations at that time.
He was able to return for the 2020 postseason, as most of his suspension had been served during the previous year’s postseason. During the 2021 season, Germán had notable moments, including an impressive performance against the Boston Red Sox where he took a no-hitter into the seventh inning. However, he finished the season with a 4-5 record and a 4.58 ERA.
In 2022, Germán began the season on the injured list due to right shoulder impingement syndrome but made his return on July 21. However, on May 16, he was ejected from a game against the Toronto Blue Jays due to an illegal substance violation. Germán claimed that the stickiness on his hands was caused by the rosin bag, but he received a 10-game suspension and an undisclosed fine, which he did not appeal.
Germán made history on June 28, 2023, by pitching a perfect game, becoming the 24th pitcher in MLB history and the first since 2012 to achieve this remarkable feat. This marked the fourth perfect game by a Yankees pitcher, making them the team with the most perfect games in major league history.
