López joined the Washington Nationals in June 2012 as an international free agent, signing for a modest $17,000. This relatively small signing bonus was attributed to his break from baseball to complete his high school degree, signing with the Nationals at the age of 18.
His professional journey began in the Dominican Summer League Nationals in 2012, showcasing a 1–1 win–loss record and a 3.38 earned run average (ERA) in 10+2⁄3 innings.
López continued to progress, making notable contributions to teams like the Auburn Doubledays, Hagerstown Suns, and Potomac Nationals in subsequent seasons.
In 2016, López started the season with the Harrisburg Senators, earning a promotion to the Syracuse Chiefs after a commendable 3.18 ERA through 14 starts.
His major league debut with the Nationals on July 19, 2016, was a mixed bag, but he demonstrated resilience with nine strikeouts. Throughout the season, he moved between Harrisburg, Syracuse, and the Nationals, accumulating a 5–7 record and a 3.21 ERA.
The journey continued as López was part of a trade to the Chicago White Sox in December 2016, alongside Lucas Giolito and Dane Dunning, in exchange for Adam Eaton.
Over the subsequent seasons, López played with the Charlotte Knights and the White Sox, showcasing his skills in both starting and relief roles.
