Early in his career, Onyeka Nwelue wrote for a newspaper called The Guardian in Nigeria under Jahman Anikulapo, the editor of The Guardian on Sunday.

Onyeka Nwelue is an author who has written 22 books, with 20 of them self-published or through his publishing company Abibiman Publishing. In 2021, he produced nine books.

One of his novels, The Beginning of Everything Colourful, was shortlisted for the ANA Prose Fiction Prize in 2018, and his book of poems, The Lagos Cuban Jazz Club, was shortlisted for ANA Poetry Prize in the same year.
