Ferren Lee, also known as Coco Lee, was born on 17 January 1975 in Hong Kong. Her mother was from Hong Kong, while her father was of Malaysian Chinese descent. She had two older sisters, Nancy and Carol, with Nancy later becoming her manager.
Sadly, her father passed away before she was born. At the age of nine, Lee and her family relocated to San Francisco, where she attended Presidio Middle School and Raoul Wallenberg Traditional High School.
After graduating from high school in 1992, Lee received a recording contract offer in Hong Kong. She initially attempted to balance her career with her studies at the University of California, Irvine, but eventually decided to focus solely on her music.
Career
Throughout her career, she released numerous albums spanning various genres such as pop, C-pop, dance-pop, R&B, and soul. One notable achievement was her first English-language album titled “Just No Other Way.”
One of Lee’s singles, “Do You Want My Love,” garnered international attention, reaching the top 50 on the US Billboard Dance Club Play chart and the Australian Singles Chart.
She made history as the first Chinese American to perform at the Academy Awards when she showcased her rendition of “A Love Before Time” from the movie “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.” Additionally, Lee served as the first Chinese ambassador for Chanel.
Health
Lee faced a physical challenge as she was born with a defect in her left leg. Despite undergoing surgery at a young age, the procedure did not fully correct the issue, resulting in her relying on her right leg for support throughout her life.
In March 2023, she informed her fans via social media that she had undergone pelvic and thigh surgery in Hong Kong due to an old leg injury sustained during dance practice in October 2022. She shared videos of her rehabilitation process, demonstrating her determination to walk again.
Tragically, on 2 July 2023, Lee attempted suicide and was admitted to Queen Mary Hospital in an unconscious state. Three days later, on 5 July 2023, she passed away at the age of 48. Her sister, Nancy, revealed that the funeral would be delayed until at least August, pending an autopsy.

Her husband, Bruce Rockowitz has been closely tied to the entertainment industry. He was previously married and has two daughters from his first marriage. However, his most notable marriage was to Coco Lee, a renowned singer. The couple tied the knot on October 27, 2011, in Hong Kong in a Jewish ceremony.
Tragically, Coco Lee passed away on July 5, 2023, leaving Bruce Rockowitz to mourn the loss of his beloved wife. Bruce Philip Rockowitz was born on November 1, 1958. He is known as the chairman of Rock Media International and co-founder of the Pure Group.
Rockowitz began his career as a professional tennis player after leaving the University of Vermont. He found himself in Hong Kong, where he became the head tennis coach at the Hong Kong Country Club. It was during this time that he had the opportunity to teach the then-chairman of Li & Fung.
In 1981, Rockowitz co-founded Colby International with his fellow Canadian Allan Zeman and served as the CEO and president from 1986 to 2000. In 2000, Colby International was acquired by Victor Fung and Li & Fung for a substantial sum of US$2.2 billion.
Rockowitz took on the role of CEO from 2011 to 2014. Since May 2014, he has held the positions of vice-chairman and CEO at Global Brands Group. Additionally, he is the co-founder and non-executive chairman of The Pure Group.
