The Nigerian government has officially designated several foreign universities as not recommended for enrollment by Nigerians.

The universities on this blacklist include the University of Applied Sciences and Management in Port Novo, Republic of Benin, along with its other campuses in Nigeria.

Volta University College in Ho, Volta Region, Ghana, and its other campuses in Nigeria are also listed, along with The International University in Missouri, USA, specifically its Kano and Lagos Study Centres, and any of its campuses in Nigeria, among others.

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has made an appeal to the government to reconsider the suspension of accreditation for certificates obtained from these universities.

They highlight the adverse effects on legitimate students who have pursued their studies in these institutions.

This move has sparked concerns within the student community, with NANS urging a reconsideration of the decision due to its impact on students who genuinely pursued their education at these universities.

The Federal Ministry of Education has temporarily halted the assessment and accreditation of degree certificates from Benin and Togo

This decision comes in response to an undercover investigation by a Nigerian newspaper, revealing fraudulent activities in Cotonou, Benin Republic. The investigative report exposed the ease with which one could obtain a degree from Cotonou University in just six weeks.

The reporter also participated in the mandatory one-year scheme organized by the National Youth Service Corps. The National Universities Commission, after analyzing data from its website, has identified several foreign universities banned in Nigeria.
