Mikael Ymer, born on September 9, 1998, is a retired professional tennis player from Sweden. He reached a career-high ATP singles ranking of world No. 50 on April 17, 2023. In doubles, his highest ranking was No. 187, achieved in October 2017.

Notably, he held the position of No. 1 Swedish player. However, his tennis career came to an end due to an 18-month suspension for violating anti-doping rules, announced in July 2023.

Ymer was born in Skara, Sweden, to Ethiopian immigrant parents and is the younger brother of fellow tennis player Elias Ymer. Another younger brother, Rafael, is making strides in the junior tennis circuit.

In his early career, Ymer reached the junior major final at the 2015 Wimbledon Championships but faced defeat against American Reilly Opelka. In 2015, he secured his second European Championships title (U18) by defeating Bernabé Zapata Miralles in the final.

From 2016 to 2018, Ymer achieved milestones such as winning his first ATP title in doubles, making his Masters 1000 debut, and claiming his first Grand Slam main draw victory at the 2019 French Open.

His career continued to progress, reaching a new singles ranking high of No. 67 in March 2020. Notably, he reached the third round of a Grand Slam tournament for the first time at the 2021 Australian Open.

In 2021, Ymer achieved significant victories, including defeating world No. 15 Gaël Monfils at the French Open and reaching his first ATP final at the Winston-Salem Open.

Although facing challenges, such as a first-round exit at the 2022 Australian Open, Ymer demonstrated resilience. He reached the semi-finals at the 2022 Open Sud de France and the third round at the 2022 French Open.

Throughout 2022, Ymer continued to make an impact, defeating top players like Andy Murray and reaching the quarterfinals at the ATP 500 tournament.

His performance in 2023 included reaching the quarterfinals at the BW Open, representing Sweden in the Davis Cup tie, and achieving a career-high ranking of world No. 51 in April.

However, his career took a turn when he received an 18-month suspension from CAS in July 2023 for missing three out-of-competition doping tests. Despite Ymer’s appeal, the suspension was upheld, leading to his retirement from professional tennis on August 25, 2023.
