Are you an international student looking to pursue undergraduate, master’s, or doctoral studies? The Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs offers scholarships to non-EU nationals who want to study in Romania.
Here is all you need to know about the scholarships and how to apply for them. The scholarships are open to non-EU nationals with good academic records.
Let’s read the Eligibility Criteria, Scholarship Levels, Language Requirement, benefits and application process below.
The scholarship is available to all non-EU nationals with good academic records, regardless of where they live. However, priority will be given to those who live in countries without mutual educational and cultural agreements with Romania.
There are three levels of study covered by the scholarship. The first cycle, known as Licenta, is for high school graduates or equivalent pre-university systems who wish to continue their studies in Romania.
It takes 3 to 6 years, depending on the faculty, and ends with a final exam. The second cycle, known as Master, is for university/post-graduate graduates who want to pursue their master’s degree in Romania.
It takes 1.5 to 2 years and ends with a dissertation. The third cycle, known as Doctorate, is for university/post-graduate graduates who want to pursue a doctorate in Romania. It takes 3-4 years and ends with a doctor’s thesis.
All scholarship recipients must study in Romanian to support the country’s language and culture.
If candidates do not speak Romanian, they will be given an additional year of preparation to learn it. Students who claim to speak Romanian must pass a language test.
The scholarship covers free tuition, free accommodation (depending on availability), and financial support ranging from €65-85 per month. However, it does not cover food or transportation expenses.
Interested candidates can apply directly through the Study in Romania platform. The platform can be accessed at https://studyinromania.gov.ro via the Apply for MFA scholarships button or directly at https://scholarships.studyinromania.gov.ro.
The required documents include:
